Thaís Gomes speaks at webinar on Data Protection Law

Thaís Gomes, a TMT (Technologies, Media and Telecommunications) associate at Cambule & Américo - Sociedade de Advogados, took part at the invitation of the National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (INTIC) in the webinar organised by this institution to discuss the proposed Data Protection Law, an event that was part of the celebration of women's month.

Thaís spoke on the subject of ‘Proposed Data Protection Law and International Data Transfer: Challenges and Perspectives’, presenting the panorama of data protection in Mozambique and the regulatory framework for data protection, including the topic of the international transfer of personal data. On this last topic, Thaís pointed out that under the terms of the Draft Data Protection Law, the National Data Protection Authority is the one that authorises the cross-border transfer of personal data, and it must be ensured that the transfer is made to countries that guarantee an adequate level of protection.

Still on the subject of international data transfer, Thaís pointed out the challenge of further developing the issue of prior impact assessment criteria and appropriate security measures with regard to transfer mechanisms, in accordance with the Law.

At the end, Thaís spoke about the risks, challenges and perspectives regarding the entry into force of the Data Protection Act and in particular the accommodation of good practices in the processing and transfer of data by the state, companies and civil society.
